Marrakech COP22 presents the new logo

The Steering Committee for the 22nd session of the Conference of Parties (COP22) revealed on Thursday the logo for the conference, which will be held November 7 through 18, in Marrakech, Morocco. Featured in a press release from the Steering Committee, the logo features the Menara, which is the remnant of an old hydraulic system more than 700 years old. The Menara, which also represents the ochre city, is a live testament to the knowledge of Morocco’s ancestors in managing water, a scarce and precious resource.

The famous building of the Menara was chosen to be at the heart of a circle decorated by Moroccan “Zellige”. The authentic Moroccan decorative mosaic is designed in a way that symbolizes the sun, which Morocco exploits as a source of energy in Noor Ouarzazate concentrated solar power complex – the largest in the world.

Salaheddine Mezouar, President of the COP22 – and Morocco’s Foreign Minister – was quoted as saying that “the chosen visual identity was chosen to represent the civilizational and historic capital of the Kingdom, especially that of the iconic city of Marrakech.” The organizers used four colors for the logo of the Marrakech COP22: blue, green, red and yellow. The colors are inspired by the four primary environmental elements water, earth, air and fire.

Last month, COP22 Commissioner Abdeladim said that Morocco, which has a proven record in organizing international events, has all the assets to ensure the success of the 22nd session of the United Nations Framework Climate Change Conference.
