Dubai, Green Capital of the world
Dubai is evermore a leading proponent of the Green economy. At the World Green Economy Summit (WGES), held in Dubai on 5-6 October, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy said ''The Dubai Declaration represents our commitment to create an even smarter, greener, happier Dubai, and make it the Global Green Capital of the World".
Dubai will also establish a Green Energy Fund, endowed with US$ 27 Billion. The fund will support local, national and international projects and pursue the creation of new, innovative financing mechanisms. This will be supported by developing the ‘Dubai Green Free Zone’, dedicated to attracting mature and emerging companies that will be encouraged to develop innovative business models for clean energy and transport.
The Government of Dubai has also launched the establishment of the World Green Economy Organisation. The initiative, supported by the United Nations Development Programme, will aim to promote cooperation between countries, facilitating dialogue towards a unified green economy objective. The organization will serve as a platform for climate change mitigation solutions, sustainable energy, and for tackling other sensitive environmental issues. Looking forward, Dubai will contribute to the Global Climate Action Agenda and will present its future commitments and proposed actions in the forthcoming State of Green Economy Report 2017.
